12 STEP PROGRAM
Support Groups Through Recovery
Opus Health encourages all patients to join some kind of support group or 12-Step Program. Whether recovering from alcoholism, illicit drug use, pharmaceutical drug dependency, or other self-destructive substance addictions, support groups can be one of the most life-changing experiences for a recovering addict.
The 12-step program is one of the most widely known and commonly used programs for the treatment of addiction and starts with residential treatment admission. “Step” programs were pioneered by Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and have been adapted for use in the treatment of other addictions as well.
We understand not everyone believes in a higher power, nor do all patients find the clarity they need within the 12-Step structure. The same amount of treatment, care, and non-judgment are given to everyone who comes to Opus Health. The 12-Step Program model is not mandatory, but it’s highly recommended. Many of our patients do find the accountability, empathy, and trust they need through these types of support groups.
Recovery Process
The process of attaining and maintaining sobriety can seem daunting at first, especially if you’ve just made the decision to get professional help. The truth is that you are about to accomplish one of the most challenging and fulfilling life changes that any single person can experience.
When our clients complete their residential treatment programs, we arrange custom, individualized Aftercare Programs for them. This helps ensure that the realities of life after inpatient treatment are not stumbling blocks.
Much of our behavioral treatment focuses on addressing the triggers to addiction, so you will already be leaving with a set of guidelines for yourself. Keep in close contact with your sponsor during this time as it can be vital to maintaining your new lifestyle!
Conclusion:
One thing you should know is that the list of therapies and treatments for both alcohol and drug addiction is long and varied. In theory, this should make it possible for everyone to find a rehab facility that is likely to work for them. At the same time, it means you could end up choosing the wrong facility. Take your time and do your homework regarding the various treatment facilities and what they have to offer. It may take some time before you find the right rehabilitation facility, but in doing so you have the highest chance of success. If you or a loved one needs help, call us at 949-264-0191.
